Artist's Comments

I walked around this graveyard in Nagasaki for a good 20 minutes. The darn thing ran up the side of a very steep hill and looked like it would go on forever. I noticed a lot of high spirited families walking by me. They are saints to scale these stairs to visit their families' graves.

It's cool to see the combination of a graveyard and houses. It reminds me of our life cycle.

I wonder what it would feel like to live next to one then. Every morning you wake up, look out the window and go, "yep, there it is..."

Heehee, I know! It would be a constant reminder of death when you drink that first cup of coffee in the morning!
